And what a pleasure ! The first night we discuss the types of bookstores that the students would like to have. Art. Only. Black Studies. Only. Bricks & Mortar stores - Yes. Internet sales - Yes. Where ? A resounding response: "Why, here in Las Vegas, of course." Almost perfect business models for this town and this time.
We have a three or four credible bookstores in town, but they have a general stock of quality books with major sub-specialties. The true specialist dealer came to an end here when Bob Coffin closed and Nevada Mineral & Book moved to California. Bob Coffin's was a medium-sized store; Nevada B&M was absolutely huge; most of us are medium to large stores, but I think the time has come for hugely enthusiastic folks like my current students to accumulate quality stock and establish a small specialty store with low rent and expenses to serve a specific customer base. Blessings on the heads of those who do what they love, for they shall never work a day in their lives.
