A Christmas Present

Most of us have had the rather dubious pleasure of having unacceptable customers in our stores, and we on the Western Slope have managed to 86 most of them. Our esteemed colleague, Ann Devere had an encounter with one of our 86ees, which resulted in the following review posted on Google. Be warned, dear reader, this is an early Christmas gift for all the Bookmen in town, and in view of Ann's almost unlimited patience, an especially good gift for her! The solecisms and  errors in the text below were committed by it's original writer. By the way,if you have frequented Plaza Books, I would encourage you to provide your own review.

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!! I was a loyal customer of Plaza Books until one day I brought in some used books I did not want anymore and Ann looked at them and said I only want one of them out of all the books I had. She issued me $5.00 on my credit sheet. A customer bought a book from her in the $1.00 book shelf outside of her store. I was hard up for money so I waited until he was out of her store and I proceeded to follow him out of her store and I made sure that I we were not in front of or inside her store when I asked the customer if you want you can have any of my books for .50 cents. She came out of her store and told me that I could not do that in front of her store. I told her that I was not in front of her store and the store front I was in front of was vacant. She told a customer in her store to give back the book she bought from me and took back the $5.00 credit on my credit sheet. She told me that I was 86 out of her store and to never come back again. I have never stole from her and I bought ... Not only her but all used book stores need to lower their prices because the economy is bad and unemployment is at an all time high. If she did that then she could move inventory. I contacted my attorney and he told me that she was dead wrong what she did because I was courtious to leave her store and not sell my books in front of it.

  1. I rather think the lawyer doesn't know the law ... selling anything on the streets or sidewalks requires a permit:

6.62.020 - Permit and work card required.

Except as otherwise provided in this Chapter:

    (A)

No person shall peddle or solicit in the City without first obtaining and thereafter maintaining:

    (1)

A valid, unexpired peddler/solicitor permit or agent solicitation permit issued pursuant to this Chapter; and

    (2)

A valid, unexpired work card issued pursuant to LVMC Chapter 6.86.

    (B)

No principal of a business shall authorize or permit an agent to peddle or solicit on behalf of the business unless the agent has obtained and maintains a valid, unexpired work card and an agent solicitation permit.
