Man Does Not Live By Books Alone

M. C. Beaton, AKA Marion Chesney has written a charming series about a lazy, Scottish village policeman who would rather remain in his hamlet than be promoted and have to move to the city.

R, D. Wingfield has written a brilliant series about a police inspector who is a townie, and spends a great deal of his time practicing anti-organizational creativity and doing battle with his superiors.
Agatha Christie created Poirot; Arthur Conan Doyle did the same for Sherlock; Dorothy L. - yes, the "L" is extremely important - Sayers birthed the aristocratic Peter Whimsey;

Why do we choose these ? Simple answer: they all have been translated to the Big Screen, and more importantly, to the Small Screen, and all of them are acceptable substitutes for the bound tales, and much better than commercial TV.

But wait - there's more. Much more. Caroline Graham's characters have morphed into the Midsomer Murders Brit TV series, and there are about 60 - yes, 60 full length feature episodes.
