It’s Time to Cook

The year-end holidays - for us here at Greyhound’s Books these start on the 4th of July - are a great time for cooking. And be truthful, some of you who don’t cook will buy prepared food for the Groaning Boards that you will grace.
Diana Mott Davidson’s heroine is Gertrude “Goldy” Bear, and is a caterer. DMD scatters recipes through her books, and some of them are quite decent. But for real food, you have to search out Rex Stout’s gourmet chef, Fritz, and gourmet protagonist, Nero Wolfe. Then there’s Lawrence Saunders  whose Chief Edward X. Delaney specializes in gourmet sandwiches and bad guys. Or maybe even one of these other authors of culinary mysteries: Mary Daheim, Katherine Hall Page, Virginia Rich, and from the other side of the table, Phyllis Richman. Bon Appetit !
